Doubtful Sound, New Zealand

Raelene Shea is a Canadian artist and painter who often travels and paints the images that she sees. On one of her world travels to New Zealand, she visited Doubtful Sound. This is an oil on canvas painting of one of her favourite locations in that area. Check out what Raelene had to say:

This original oil painting of Doubtful Sound, south Island New Zealand, was done from a series of photo studies taken from the Fjordland Navigator while I was on vacation in March 2018. These pristine fjords are silent, peaceful, calm, but strangely without birds. Weather is ever changing - as I hope I have depicted in the unsettled storm clouds.

I used mostly cool colors for the mountains as it was a very cool morning, leaving some more warm tones in the clouds and water. I added the small vagrant cloud to break up the large mass of the mountainside which is dark and in shadow.
