WATER LILIES OF DAMBULLA

Water Lilies of Dambulla 60" X 48" Original Oil Painting by Raelene Shea - on canvas was painted using several photo references of this gazing pond at Dambulla Cave Temple, a World Heritage Site. The full sun on the pond made all these photos very grey and I felt that I would use my meditative colour aqua as the water  theme. The transparency of the water was achieved by painting very light colour first and then using thin glazes of darker colour with splashes of very dark or almost brown to denote pieces of leaf or twigs in the water.
