Raelene Shea Paints Original Oil Painting of Fletcher Lake BC - August 2nd 2019

Raelene Shea is a Canadian painter who works in both oil and pastel. She creates beautiful original oil paintings of the landscapes and woodlands in areas like Fletcher Lake. Her ability to capture a scene on canvas is inspiring, recreating the feeling of being in the location being presented. Raelene is often commissioned to recreate pieces in her portfolio and to create new paintings in locations that should be captured in paint. Not too long ago, she did this for a painting of Fletcher Lake.

Fletcher Lake is a good-sized body of water located 120km west of Williams Lake BC. The beautiful lake is used year round for swimming, canoeing, fishing, and ice fishing. Nearby is a campground so that anyone can experience the beauty of the area. One of the residents of the area wanted a painting of the lake in their home, so in October 2018 Raelene was commissioned to do an on-site painting of the lake!

In the cool crisp days of fall, this area of British Columbia, called the Chilcotin, delights with clear and colourful skies and wonderful evening sunsets. Raelene says her painting captures the late afternoon light under a clear sky – which is the time when any painter or photographer would be capturing Fletcher Lake at its best.

Raelene says of the process of painting outdoors at this time of year (in about 12C weather) is great with enough hot chocolate to keep the fingers moving! The weather at this time of year is usually a bit more crisp this far north, so lots of hot chocolate was needed!

This original oil painting, 42” X 30”, now hangs by a warm fire in its owner’s home. Raelene said it was a real treat to finish this before the snow flew!
