Raelene Shea Commissions Paintings for Art Collectors in Colombo, Sri Lanka - September 24th 2018

Raelene Shea is a Canadian painter who splits her time between Canada and Sri Lanka, where she receives inspiration for her art by immersing herself in diverse cultures as an observer and participant. Raelene also travels to other destinations, always with camera in hand at the ready to capture moments that may find their way onto canvas.

Rather than selling mass produced prints of her evocative paintings, Raelene chooses instead to offer art lovers the opportunity to request a painted reproduction of her originals. This act of requesting the creation of an original piece is known as commissioning art. Private individuals, galleries, governments, and businesses may commission artwork. In this way, every painting of Raelene's is an original! Also, the person commissioning the piece is validating and showing support for original art.

Below is one of Raelene's recent commissioned paintings, which is on its way to the U.K. She has watched these lovely, carefree border collies racing with glee along the shore, and decided to capture their delightful energy on canvas. No winners or losers in this race!

Raelene commissions her paintings and ships them around the world. A lot of her pieces are commissioned by people in Colombo, Sri Lanka, the capital city which is a historically renowned port on ancient east-west trade routes. Raelene recently sold a commissioned painting entitled "Line Houses" to a buyer in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

In Raelene’s travels throughout South Asia, she has captured many photos of diverse cultural expression in gestures, brilliant colours, spirituality and prayer, and cooperation in day to day rural work and play. These photos have transferred beautifully to Raelene’s canvas, allowing for the art collector to fully appreciate the authenticity of the moments in which humans interact with one another and their surroundings.

For example, in Ladies At Morning Prayers, Raelene was struck by the feelings of reverence, humility, and tranquility of the women praying. She took a photo as a reference for her process of not only painting the scene on canvas, but also telling a story using light, shadows, depth, varying hues of colour to convey the sense of peace on this 48” x 36” original oil painting.

Another lovely representation of Raelene’s desire to capture moments of cultural expression in a tranquil setting is her painting A Maldives Moment. This 24” x 32” original oil painting reflects a soft silhouette of young Muslim children and their Mothers cooling off with a sea bath beneath the setting sun at the end of a hot Maldivian day. Again, the sense of calm Raelene experienced when she witnessed the scene, overcomes the viewer in a different time and place. This is what art is about.

You can contact Raelene to commission a painting, including renditions of her original works from her own private collection and other pieces whether for your collection or for exhibitions, special projects, individual and/or group instruction.
