Original Saree Flutters Oil Painting Sold to Villa in Tangalle, Sri Lanka - June 5th 2019

Raelene Shea is a Canadian artist and painter who spends much of her time living in Tangalle, Sri Lanka. Her original oil paintings depict the beauty she sees in the people and culture in Sri Lanka, as well as many other subjects she encounters in her world travels. She recently sold one of her paintings to a villa in Tangalle. The painting is a dynamic portrayal of sarees worn by many local woman. The painting - an original oil painting titled “Saree Flutters” - is now displayed in its new home to be seen by all who visit.

Tangalle is a large coastal town in the southern province of Sri Lanka. Due to it’s relatively large size, mild climate, beautiful sandy beaches, and proximity to Colombo (the “commercial capital” of Sri Lanka),the town in a centre of tourism and a popular holiday destination in the country. Visitors from all over the world can come and enjoy everything the area has to offer and will also see the beauty of what inspired Raelene to paint “Saree Flutters”.

“Saree Flutters” was inspired by the beautiful Sri Lankan women who wear amazing sarees on a daily basis. On their own the fabric of a saree is full of unique and beautiful designs as well as vibrant colours. When the mild and warm breeze from the Indian Ocean catches the fabric it dances in the breeze, showing off the colours and patterns of each woman’s saree. Ralene’s 48” by 36” oil painting elegantly captures this part of Sri Lanka’s culture.

This original painting now has a home in a new villa in Tangalle. When that villa is complete, Raelene’s painting will be on display there for all visitors to see.

She has chosen to offer this option instead of mass producing prints of her art so that every painting can be original! Saree Flutters has been commissioned in the past by others who were interested in a smaller version of it.
