Art Lover Commissions Small Version of Raelene Shea's Saree Flutters Painting - July 9th 2018
Raelene Shea is a painter who spends half of her time in Tangalle, Sri Lanka. Having painted numerous nature and landscape pieces, Raelene's current inspiration comes from capturing the beauty and poignancy in cultural expressions she sees in her travels throughout south Asia.
Surrounded by natural beauty in her outdoor studio space, Raelene follows her heart in deciding which of her photos she will transform into paintings on canvas or paper. And the paintings unfold in ways that illustrate a feeling and deepen cultural awareness of the moments she has witnessed.
Much to Raelene's delight, one of her clients recently commissioned a 20" x 16" version of her original oil painting "Saree Flutters” - pictured above beside a lovely, wide smile. The original piece is 48" x 36", and would be too large for her client's home!
The painting was inspired by the many beautiful sarees (saris) worn by Sri Lankan ladies in the Tangalle area of Sri Lanka. With stunning contrast, Raelene has captured the vibrant saree and glimpses of its wearer, against four layers of black gesso. The viewer experiences the flow of the fabric caught by the wind while the wearer pulls it over her head.
When you look closely at Raelene's commissioned rendition of "Saree Flutters," you will notice the same subject, colors and layout with some slight differences. This makes each piece an original in its own right.
Although Raelene does not produce prints, she will do commissioned renditions of her original works upon request, as in this case. Raelene wants to ensure your painting is what you have envisioned for your home. Commissions of other work also accepted, as well as exhibitions, special projects, individual or group instruction. Raelene would love to hear from you!
