Ancient Dwellings
Collage of fabric and paper painted over with oils - 24" x 30 " on canvas.
I have never been to Morocco or Turkey, but I read a lot of histoical novels and my imagination led me to develop this painting of what I think dwellings in these countries might have been like many years a go. It doesn't really fit with my Canadian art pieces but neither is it South Asian. Ancient Dwellings could be middle Eastern, middle American, or North African. They even remind me of the pueblos of the southern United States.
This is my first foray into collage and mixed media, and I really enjoyed the free flowing
feeling of creativity as I randomly chose pieces of different thickness
papers, some with holes, and different textures of fabrics. They were stuck
to the canvas with thick gesso and then gessoed over one layer. I've called
it Ancient Dwellings - because I found the design only in my mind.
