LADIES AT MORNING PRAYERS

Ladies at Morning Prayers - 48" X 36" Original Oil Painting by Raelene Shea - It is the feeling of reverence, humility, and tranquility in this scene that spoke to me as I ttook the photo reference for this painting. The first version of this painting was small and more in blue and purple hues, much cooler.

This scene stayed with me after selling the first one, and I really wanted it to tell more of  the story of the morning. The beautiful sunlight that accompanid these ladies quietly saying their prayers gave such a feeling of peace to the scene , I wanted to capture  it. Again I did a detailed drawing of the fgures only, blocked in the lights, and then let the brushes freely do the wall and shadows behind. These temples are often dim inside so the receding figures become just shapes and those in the far background , just ideas.
